Amount of thermal paste - help

Please look at these two pics and tell me if I have too much TS5 on it. I followed the recommended method in the Vendetta2 review to put 2 lines of AS5 on the spacer between the heat pipes. It looks as if there is the right amount on the middle of the cpu, but too much to the side. I am sure I have tightened the four screws until they cannot turn any more.

Looks fine to me, I believe the hdt coolers have a hump in the middle to put pressure over the core/die.

Easiest way to find out is to re mount a couple times and check temps.

Personally, I'm not seeing anything wrong in those photos. As stated, many coolers have a bowing to their surface, which can leave a little extra paste towards the edges.

Looks good. You definitely got more AS5 on there than me lol. Now I know how much AS5 to put the next time I install or re-seat my heatsinks.

For HDT coolers, the best way to put AS5 is to put two lines down the middle of the aluminum part of the HDT cooler.

Thanks. I have just finished lapping the HS to get rid of the major scratch marks. I'll remount and put a bit less since it did overflow to the side.

The max temp improved by 2c. Don't know if it is due to lapping ot due to using a little bit less AS5.
