It's supposed to redirect the airflow from the bottom edge of the cooler downwards towards motherboard components like VRMs.

It just slides in at whatever level you want to put it at on the case side of the cooler. It should kinda "snap" in.

you need to install it on the side where bump is. Also you should notice that some of the fins are cut so they look like they fit in between the raised parts. It's a pain but you need it so your mosfets and system HS can get properly cooled otherwise you run the risk of over heating. (i share you pain. it took me 30 minutes to get it properly installed the first time.
