Default C2D Users...How do you have your xigmatek hdt-21283 oriented?

Hi,
I have an e8400 with a xigmatek HDT-s1283 cooler. Had it on for quite sometime now. It was my first aftermarket CPU cooler.

Recently discovered that my 2 cores are running at significantly different idle temps.
According to CPUID's Hardware monitor Core#0 usually idles at 39-40 and Core#1 at 33. That seems like a big difference and someone recently suggested I reseat the HSF.

So in my antec 900 I currently have it blowing sideways and out through the rear 120mm fan. I am going to reseat it this week and was wondering if I should change the orientation so that it blows up and out through the bigboy fan at the top.

Also, any suggestions for applyin TIM with this cooler?
I read a guide the last time, I put to thin strips on the aluminum between the heatpipes, and this spreads over the pipes. After filling the gaps of course.

Anyway, any tips would be appreciated.
I also use the thermaltake backplate mounting kit.

Shouldn't matter for your case. There is plenty of air flow Any way you orient it. It's really up to you.

I was more so thinking about how the heatpipes are oriented with respect to the two cores.

Before you do anything check the temps under the load. If under the load (60-70) the temps of all cores are within 3-4 degrees - nothing to worry about, it just sensor error. Intel specifies that sensors are not designed to measure the idle temps.
On my Q9650 I have one hot core (+10) and one cool core (-5). Under the load hot core heats less and cool core heats more. So all cores are within 4 degrees of each other at 70 in IBT (3.6GHz).

yup i wouldn't worry about that. I too have the xigmatek in your post on an e8400. and those temps are around what i get in my antec 300. I've done several hour gaming sessions and full speed with no issues. (by several hour, i mean 5+).

As for applying tim, the best way i have found is to run to small beads along the 2 alluminum spaces between the heat pipes. Hasn't steared me wrong yet. how ever i am using AS5 :D

I've got an E5200 and my cores seem to stay within five degrees of each other under full load. It's in a CM 690 so the case outake fan's on one side of the S1283 and I mounted its' fan to blow through the fins into thatone. I don't know what the aerodynamics involved are but I listen to the results; I'd say you should experiment moving your fans a little. If nothing else, it'll make you feel better. Do it for SCIENCE!
