low profile heatsink for LGA1366 How's it goin' everyone... I'm new here and this is my very first post. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have found a Canadian tech board :thumb:. On to my problem ... I'm planning to build a new rig just as soon as I can hammer out all the details. One of those details is a heat sink for an i7 920 processor. The case I have picked out is the Cooler Master RC-1100 Cosmos in which there is a height restriction of 145mm for heat sinks (and anything else I suppose). I can't find anything that low at this time. I've looked at the Thermaltake CL-P0508 V1 ... it's either 147 or 143mm high (depends where you look and who you ask) that's either a little too big or a very tight fit. If anyone knows of a good quality low profile heat sink, I would very much appreciate your suggestions. Cheers ... |
How about the Ultima 90 with the 1366 bolt-thru kit? That's what I'm currently using, and my 920 is clocked at 3.6 with 1.28V (bad chip ) and my idle temps are 40, and with folding, it tops at around 70. |
Any idea as to where I could purchase the Ultima 90? |
Here ya go: NCIX.com - Buy Thermalright ULTIMA-90 6 Heatpipe Cooler LGA775 AM2 CPU Heatsink *Fan Not Included* - Ultima-90 In Canada. Try pricematching that with this: Thermalright ULTIMA-90 6 Heatpipe Cooler LGA775 AM2 CPU Heatsink *Fan Not Included* - DirectCanada It'll save you around $10, which will pay for the bolt thru kit. NCIX.com - Buy Thermalright LGA1366 BOLT-THRU Kit for All Ultra Series HR01 Plus HR01 4U HR01 3U Ultima 90 - BTK-LGA1366R In Canada. |
Thanks Infiniti ... I have one question. where does the fan attach ... on the side or on the top? |
On the side, just like the TRUE. It's basically the mini version of the TRUE. |
Okay, thanks again. I will put the Ultima 90 on my list of possibilities. |
That's not a whole lot of space for a heat sink, especially since it's a full tower? I just finished a new i7 920 build, as you can see by my specs, and after a fair amount of dd I decided this case would fit my needs to a T. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...se-review.html I can categorically assure you that you won't have any problems fitting the largest cpu cooler you can find because I put in a cooler master V10 in mine, with room to spare. You might not care for the looks of the HAF but imho it offers the best bang for your buck in a full tower case. |
Thanks Dogger ... That's not a bad looking case and if you say you have a V10 installed, there must be lots of room (the V10 is quite a beast) I'm not sure why the RC-1100 Cosmos has so little space. It is, as you said, a full tower. There is a 200mm side fan but I doubt that takes up a lot of space. But anyway ... Thanks for the suggestion ( I really appreciate it) and I will definitely consider the HAF 932. |
