about those yate loon red/black fans

has anyone run into noise problems with them?. i bought ten and was thinking of going for 10 more. but several of them have become quite the noisy things. to the point where i believe i will be disposing of them and installing several of those ultra khaze's i bought

What orientation do you have them in? Horizontal or vertical? YL's have sleeve bearings, which can have lubrication problems when spinning horizontally.

the two i am having problems with are mounted vertically. the same as in another case. just these 2 went bad i guess

I have 4 placed vertically and 3 horizontal, haven't had any problems at all, but whatever problems I have maybe having are probably getting muffled by Panaflos.

it turns out that the case i put the server in has a unique problem that i have never encountered before. the case is a coolermaster centurion 590. it is the first time i will be throwing away a new piece of hardware, the second i can afford a different case, like the antec 300.

anyway, on the side of thsi case there are 2 places to put fans blowing air (presumably) in. i tries ultra kaze, coolermasters, yate loons and brand x fans. all of them when installed blowing air in set up a vibration that created the buzzing sound. for ome reason i cannot fathom when set up to blow air out there is no noise at all.

this buzzing is also created on the fan place at the back of the case. i installed one blowing air in by mistake and thats what i got. i reversed the fan and no more buzzing.


i have a fan blowinf air out on the top of the case and would jsut reverse this to blow air out at the side but then there would eb the buzzing noise again. all in all due to this and the lack of a reset switch i would definitely recommend to anyone that they not buy this case.

I posted on your ncix post of this but anyways, the buzzing seems to happen to some but not others, my scythe jyunais were fine on the side panel and didn't buzz at all, if your tossing the case give it to me, i'll happily take a 590 again.

Maybe you can isolate where the buzzing is coming from, and put a few layers of electrical tape it insulate the metal touching the metal. That might help reduce how audible the buzzing is, and would (hopefully) let you configure the fans however you want.

Did you try going around the case with the erasure end of a pencil to try to isolate what's buzzing?

I would before tossing a case worth that much coin, suggest getting some dampening Foam inserts for the Fans. A lot of places sell that or rubber grommets to place in the fans mounts.
That can go a long way to stop the resonance you are experiencing throughout the case.
Again, different fans with different bearing designs might change things as well.
Some fans have 'shaft slop (as one site put it) where the fan isn't as balanced in its fixture. If that happens, you have a fan that creates extra vibration which can be heard.

I would say, insulate the Fans with Foam first, it might solve the issue.
