Can I suggest a 120mm fan blowing at the cards from the "radeon sticker" side, plus one at power-end?

Maybe try the Thermaltake Duorb? It uses 2 x 80mm fans. I used one for a time on an 8800GTX and it was decent, not too sure if the 4870 uses more or less power? i put one on some 3850's of mine and their temps are staying in the low 30's...

Actually I had DuOrbs on my 8800GTs which had the same problem as the cards were side-by-side. The DuOrbs were even worse. Caused the cards to overheat nearly instantly.

I just did something similar. Before I had a Lian Li exhaust fan right next to the videocards. Well I moved it to the outside of the case pushing making it an intake fan. Then I put a 70mm fan (all that will fit in the PC-A05 before it hits my hotswap bay). And temps have dropped...well sorta. To 112C .

Sheesh. But you know part of the problem is the palit card not exhausting out the back...what a poor design for a heatsink!

running 2xreference 4870 I saw 98c loaded, but it didn't artifact or anything, same slot config(BadAxe2). I'm pretty sure 105c is throttle, 120c shutdown.

I tried every fan combination I could think of, always ended up with it locking the system up on load. Either I find a longer crossfire bridge cable or I buy the Akasa Vortexx Neo (for like $50US shipped).

Well I don't have to worry about it now. Because I sold the Palit 4870 and the Sapphire 4870 dies the next day

Ouch, did you just replace it with a 295 instead and forget crossfire all together.

Are you going to even attempt to RMA the sapphire?

Damn.... Sorry to hear bout your luck there Lowfat...
Hopefully you can get back up and running with a different setup that won't run as hot.
