v8 = 74.12 << new price so wait for next month... or sale...
thermalright TRUE black = 73.08 + 10 for each fan... just two fans make a different...
vedentta2 = 30.70 + 7.95 = 38.65 or extra 10 for better fan... i rather to use it than xigmatek...

xigmatek = 36.58 + 7.95 = 41.56
noctua nh-u12p = 77.99

My e8600 @ 1.44v running at 4.6ghz is idle around 32-34 degrees and P95 small FFT at 65 degrees.

I don't.

I quit air cooling once I went water.. much quieter and efficient.

But with air I'd see a +/- 10 degree difference on idle.

Same room temps.

Water cooling is more efficient and removing excess heat than a air cooler.

Air coolers all have a max TDP where they can no longer properly dissipate heat.

With water cooling it does as well but it more relies on fans and your rad in the system for getting rid of heat.

My System Specs

Default

Personally speaking, I like the ZeroTherm FZ-120 with Push/Pull Setup. It does well to compete with some top end coolers out there. But, sure I know its not the absolute best out there, but it does a really good job at a decent price.
WC setups done right can cost a lot more than $100, but again its application based. If your pushing your system to the edge, WC is better.

My thoughts at least,
But I feel they have that List pretty close to accurate. Every site will have some preferances of their own. Its up to you to decide which one suits both your budget and application.

I am begining to think that the performance of any CPU Cooler is dependent on more than the model of the cooler. Other factors like the particular CPU, how the cooler is installed (push pins or direct mount), and in particular, the air flow of the case will determine how efficient the cooler is. I had a Vendetta 2 installed using the push pins for the last two weeks. I tried to look for a direct mount bracket but could not find a suitable one. I never trusted the push pins, so I decided to switch to the Noctua NH-U12P which comes with its own mounting brackets, and of course, one of the best fans around. Here is what I found !

Vendetta 2 installed with pins:

Ambient: 23 Deg C
CPU Temp at Idle ( Internet Surfing only) - 37 Deg C
Everest System Stability (5 minutes, CPU @100%) - 48 Deg C Max.

Noctua NH-U12P - Direct Mount:

Ambient: 23 Deg C
CPU Temp at Idle ( Internet Surfing only) - 34 Deg C
Everest System Stability (5 minutes, CPU @100%) - 38 Deg C Max

With the Noctua Cooler, my overall system is also running quieter. I have the Antec P180 Case with three case fans - one at the front (intake @1100 RPM), the second at the rear (exhaust @1500 RPM and the third at the top (exhaust @500RPM). The Noctua's CPU fan is running at 1330RPM.

Air cooling? Whats air?

Watercooling IMO > ALL Aircooling.

That being said, if you don't have the dough to go under water, than coolers such as the TRUE and Xiga are pretty good. Theres only so far you can go with air thou...
