Areca are very fast but pricey. megaRAID (LSI) are comparable speed but cheaper. 3Ware is a bit slower but generally cheaper and gives good value for the money. Adaptec seem problematic these days - if you get a good one that plays nice with your motherboard they're good but if not they're a royal PITA.
