Waste of money.
The 4870 512mb uses its DDR5 memory more efficiently than Nvidia DDR3 cards so its not worth comparing the two in terms of absolute memory.
If you game on 30inch LCDs you might as well just get the 4870X2 for future titles. For 1900 and below the 4870 512mb will be fine even with the upcomming releases. Plus they use AA more efficiently than nvidia cards which helps.
