Hmm The Mini P180 is like the larger P180 and P182 in that it's designed to optimize quiet operation and so its factory side panels are a "sandwich" of plastic and aluminum to help deaden sound and vibration. Replacing the panel (or cutting a hole in it) and screwing a sheet of acrylic over the opening rather defeats the whole purpose. It's also considerable more expensive than what I paid for a full size P182. Actually a quick glance at NCIX shows the mini-P180 and the P182 at the same price - $139 CAD

wonder why the window is mounted on outside of panel?

If it's anything like it's larger sibling, it's built to fairly close tolerances and the added thickness of the acrylic wouldn't let the side fit properly if mounted in the inside of the panel.
