Yes, a 4770.

I would like to use the VT-d extension for my Linux VM but it is not a requirement. I also want to try writing software that uses the hardware transactional memory instructions. The 4770K does not have that extension or instruction set.

I did not plan to overclock this system anyway but I may try to undervolt the CPU for cooler and quieter operation.

Why does Intel always cripple their highest mid-range overclockable processor (asking rhetorically)?

I would pay an additional $20 or $30, maybe even $50, more than a 4770K for a processor that all of the features enabled and is overclockable.
