the best place to research keyboards, by far, is geekhack.org.

brown switches are tactile, so you'll have an opportunity to feel the actuation before bottoming out, and thus brown switches are better for typing than black. even without 'clicky' switches, most cherry mx boards are loud if you bottom out every keystroke.

as far as linear switches go, I prefer red over black because they require less force. black switches are not typically recommended for people who have to type a lot.
