My System Specs

Default

I have been using one off and on for a bit ever since I put 32GB in my machine.

For software I have been using Softperfect's RAMDisk : High-performance RAM Disk for Windows.

I usually end up using for games with lots of loading screens and find that it certainly helps with loading screens. They were almost non-existent in ME2 when I had it on the ram disk. With that software you can also use it to create images and then mount that image as a ram drive. It will then save back to the image file on a regular basis (configurable) so you don't lose everything if you lose power or something.
