It supports 4K pictures and video. Just not games. It's already a bit of a miracle that they're expecting 1080p/60 to be achievable for gaming.

But 4K... asking for far too much, 7970 GHz edition barely does 45 fps in Assassin's Creed 3 at 2560x1440:

Granted consoles tend to do a lot more with less, but the jump from 1080p/60 in a $599 system to 3840x2160P/60 for $599... uh?
