Well NCIX has a bundle deal on with the 3470K and ASUS P8Z77-V Lk for $299 (NCIX Gaming Bundle Deal Intel Core i5 3470 Quad Core & ASUS P8Z77-V Lk SLI DDR3 Motherboard) so that comes in about $50 cheaper and you get the same performance with less power (although it doesn't overclock that much), the ram I previously chose is $45 for 8gb. Add the gpu at $210 and that comes to $565.

Save a few more bucks for an 128gb SSD and that is a pretty damn good system. I would consider the SSD mandatory on any new build. The performance vs price ratiois unbeatable and would be a mistake not to get one.
