i see what you mean, but unless you're installing kernel-level software (pretty much only graphics drivers), it's fairly difficult to break your system. It's the OS that is the boss; not the apps themselves. What usually happens is one program overrrides functionality from another program. that causes a 'human-panic' in the user and then they buy a new computer....

in reality, what happened was that the user clicked 'set as my default browser' on two different browsers, and then the user is confused because IE is not the default browser anymore.

that is hardly a catastrophic error as a result of too much conflicting software
