I know the first recommendation will be all those Korean models of various brands, but let's exclude those for the time being.

Looking at stuff NCIX/Newegg/Canada Computer/etc sells, so all the major brands. 1080p is perfectly fine, primary usage would be web browsing and movie watching. Ideally under $300 as well.
