This goes way beyond the latest gen.. my old 5770 artifacted in some titles and not others.
As it turns out my friend with a 5870 has the exact same problems in the same titles that I had.. Some games just don't like AMD cards..
Note that in my case it was AA that wasn't being liked and had to turn it off in said games to resolve.
