I have a 25 X 16 panel and 57 X 10, they both have pros/cons.
Running 57X10 on a single 7970 or 680 would be a rig of trade offs. Some games would be too slow to play.
If I were buying now, dual 670s or dual 7950s would be my minimums, with 670s getting the edge due to issues with microstutter on AMD CF. (as reported by Tech Report and *******).
6970s and 580s would be fine if you had one or the other and just wanted to add another.
