That was my idea when I built my current workstation 4 years ago this month. My HD4870 is still ticking along splendidly, though It doesn't handle things like BF3 and Metro very well these days. Still, good for pretty much all standard tasks and most games.

For that kind of money I'd go 690 or a pair of 670's.

Then again unless I was making a living doing graphics design or video editing I'd never think of spending that much money on video.
