BrainEater - That's normal, all the Intel drives come like that since the G2's. It's just unpolished etch marks, not residue. If your worried I can take pictures of my three Intel drives. Intel SSD's have some of the lowest RMA rates in the market, I wouldn't be worried.
I'll see if I can dig up the publicly posted reasoning Intel used for the lack of polishing, but I'm pretty sure it was a cost savings measure.
