I've always had good faith in Western Digital's drives. However, that's not to say that the other drive manufacturers aren't any good. I would personally rate them:

WD>Seagate>Samsung -- that being said, any drive can fail at anytime, so always make sure you back up your important files on multiple redundant drives.

It might help to know what size and speed of drive you're looking for. For example, a WD 2TB Green drive would NOT make a very good boot drive. However, a 3TB Barracuda would make an adequate boot drive (I say adequate because of the availability of SSDs)
