If you don't need USB 3.0 or Sata 3GB/S (really only useful for SSD's) then you could downgrade the motherboard to:

the ASUS M4A88T. It's got onboard video, and it's a little cheaper than the M5A97, so you'll save quite a bit more through not having to buy a discrete GPU.

If you want USB 3.0 or Sata 6GB/s, consider the ASUS M5A88-M. It's about the same price as the M5A97 (usually cheaper, but the M5A97 is on sale) but includes onboard video, so again, no GPU required.
