For partition size : minimum should be enough space to allow the OS to install but best idea is just to leave it a single partition. TRIM is an o/s function isn't it? motherboard is an old ASUS M3A, not sure what you mean about AMD below 8xx series.
No problem leaving it as one partition, ok.
I guess my biggest problem would be trying to use an ssd on this old motherboard.
