GPU rendering in photoshop is kinda iffy, IMO. The Mercury engine is indeed half decent. But if he was going for a rendering build I'd immediately recommend a 2600k (or equiv) for that hyperthreading, however he's asking about a gaming build, so the point is moot.

But if you're planning on folding, yes. This might not be a priority for him, and you can generally get a little more bang for your buck with AMD products.

Some people just fly the red flag. XFX also has a decent warranty.
