Expect the 7990 to perform slightly lower than X-fire 7970's. They'll probably downclock the chips just like Nvidia did with the 690.

As to whether they can get the two on one chip (I believe it was pointed out in the article that AMD would have difficulty managing heat/power output), if they could do two Cayman chips on the 6990, they should have no problem going with two fully enabled Tahiti chips on the 7990.
