My 2 EVGA 8800GT Akimbo SC in SLI work very well and for reference I am currently using an Antec Neopower 550w on practically the same system and speeds (Less GPU speeds). SLI works only as well as the drivers allow them too and the game that you are playing are coded to scale dual video cards. You will see depending on the games you play roughly 20%-60% in an increase of framerate, but more importantly the advantages of SLI are shown at higher resolutions for example 1680x1050, playing at 1024x768 makes little sense if you are running SLI. Its not that you will see an increase in FPS in most cases, but where you increase visual enhancements such as FSAA or AF you will see less of impact and more playable framerates at higher resolutions. If you're still stuck with that old 19" 4:3 LCD with its native 1280x1024 then SLI isn't really neccessary with an 8800GT as it will play most games with maxed visual settings and some FSAA untill you consider upgrading to a 22"-24" widescreen LCD.
