IIRC the "hotfix" never worked for WPA2, I ended up using Puppy Linux on my old Toshiba Satellite. No more WPA2 issues after that.
You could also try an adapter that doesn't have to use Windows to setup the connection. I know Asus adapters can do it, but the software is a little unreliable.
