When you say price is not the point.. do you mean unlimited budget??
Do you want to spend $300 or $2000? or $20,000? If you give us a price range, we'll be able to help..
As SugarJ noted, if you're going to get a receiver, use either COAX or toslink out, that way you can use onboard sound, instead of wasting a sound card. A sound card is only necessary if you're connected to it by analog to some computer speakers or headphones.
