I've observed the same effect, Grampa, and it just happened to coincide with Best Buy moving in on Future Shop. First by putting a lot of price pressure on them, forcing FS to cut back, then by installing Best Buy's corporate policies after they bought out the FS chain.

Wikipedia makes a note of a key difference with Best Buy -- FS used to have separate classes of employees with hourly sales associates and commissioned product experts, with the idea being that expertise in a specific area translated into higher sales/commissions and better customer service. In 2007 all sales associates were rebranded as product experts as well to differentiate FS from Best Buy, but to my mind it draws the chains closer together from the customer perspective since you can no longer distinguish people who (purportedly) know what they're selling from the warm body in a uniform T-shirt.
