well, I'm a CET with an HRS certification (high reliability soldering). I'm kind of 22 hour drive away though. Soldering isn't something you can show by typing over the internets. It's like miniature welding, there's a partial art to it.
As for surface mount, it's done via a very expensive soldering station that uses hot air instead of a tipped iron. It's finicky/tricky work that requires an extremely steady hand and a good lit magnifying glass (on an arm) The solder is fine as a hair, and not usually carried by standard electronic shops (around here at least)..
I can offer advice, but it's more of a "i'll show you" type of thing.
