Not if the pumps are Laing brands. Laing uses a type of mag-lev technology for the impeller. The impeller actually floats in a flux magnetic field. The white ceramic ball can take the heat and the load. The Laing pumps are not direct drive. SO ... no extra strain and no premature wear. Now, if you were talking pumps made by Eheim, then your facts would be accurate.
