yeah. the i7 2600k is basically on par with the i7 980 at about 1/3 the price. Newer tech too. Get a Z68 board such as ASUS and you'll be happy.
Z68 board and i7-2600K bundle
also get a WD green drive for storage
and if you don't have a power supply yet you cant go wrong with a
Corsair AX850
