Default $800 to $1000 Budget Gaming Build

I am building a gaming PC for my brother. His budget is $800 to $1000. I'm ordering the parts in Winnipeg and will be using NCIX for their price match, less taxes and free shipping coupon code: 50KFBSHIPSFREE. He has no preference for Intel Vs AMD or ATI vs Nvidia. I want to use a single video card so that another card can be added later for crossfire/SLI. It will run at 1920x1080. I'm looking to build this ASAP.

Zalman Z9 Case - $39.99

Intel Core i5 2500k - $208.79

LG Super-Multi 22x DVD Writer, SATA w/ Lightscribe, Black - $14.99

MSI P67A-G43 (B3) - $102.24

G.Skill Ripjaws 2X2GB DDR3-1333 (F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH) - $39.12

WD Caviar Black 500 GB Sata3 - $43.79

Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 1GB - $238.16

Corsair Gaming Series PSU 600W - $80.92

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus - $21.56

Total: $789.56

I picked the case because it's on sale this week. Is there anything better for the price?
I was debating between the radeon 6950 vs a GTX 560 Ti. I ended up choosing the 6950 because the MSI P67A-G43 (B3) doesn't appear to support SLI.
I'm not sure what kind off wattage I should aim for in this build. I need enough to potentially overclock and add another video card down the road.

Note that I came in under budget. If you were to add some money to the build, where would you add it? More ram? Better Video Card? SSD?

Also, He wants a ~23 inch monitor. Where should I look for a good deal? Is Future Shop / Best Buy a decent place to buy this?
