I have yet to order my pair but I have sampled them in my local headphone shop.
They're definitely different from the 840s. More controlled bass (some would say less), and sounds noticeably brighter than the 840 (which I yearned for). Overall I would say it's a more balanced set of cans since the old 840s sounded dark, and bassy at times.
