There's a good reason why leased server's are $1.5k (says the OP) per month. The hardware contained within is probably over $5k and you're likely also paying for maintenance should a part die, it'll be replaced within hours and not days/weeks. Or perhaps they include fail-over to another server.

Just quickly looking at Newegg, I came up with this:

Newegg.ca - SUPERMICRO AS-1012G-MTF 1U Barebone Server AMD SR5650 Socket G34 Twelve/Eight-Core ready AMD Opteron 6100 Series processors
Newegg.ca - AMD Opteron 6128 Magny-Cours 2.0GHz 8 x 512KB L2 Cache 12MB L3 Cache Socket G34 115W 8-Core Server Processor OS6128WKT8EGOWOF
Newegg.ca - Seagate Cheetah 15K.7 ST3300657SS 300GB 15000 RPM 16MB Cache SAS 6Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive x4 (I'd say run RAID10)
Newegg.ca - Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Server Memory Model CT2KIT51272BA1339 x2 (or 4 as it's quad-channel)

Which comes to $2400 without tax/shipping. Probably still advisable to get a proper RAID card as well rather than using the onboard RAID (SB850).

At least it has a dedicated management port so you can hopefully recover the sever if it's software related.
