Future proofing is kind of silly unless you are talking about like a couple weeks... if you are waiting to upgrade your monitor you might as well wait to upgrade your GPU at the same time.
There isn't much point in upgrading your GPU until you upgrade your monitor because you just pay more and your performance is wasted.
