If there were only 20 or 30 bucks difference, i would have gone with the 8500, but often the 6400 modules have some good overclcoking headway as they have the same chips in them as the 8500, just binned lower. However, you might be able to get them to run at DDR2 1000.

If you're not an experienced overclcocker, run it in unlinked mode so that you can OC thememory independantly of the CPU (and don`t say you`re not overclocking- it`s a crime not to with that gear ;-))
