Interesting. That's the first report (I've read) of using XP for the partition alignment. Most I've read is using various DOS-based applications (including LiveCDs with a DOS app added or featured). That still doesn't deal with the LCC issue, though. I've read of too many reports of that being a problem. It might not lead to immediate drive failure but no one needs anything unnecessary that might effect the drive. There's already enough that can go wrong. ;)

I'm considering a WD10EARS because the price seems to stay low. Just still don't know about the 'tweaks' one has to do, though.
