Actually, the only motherboard failure I have EVER had was related to blown caps, something that the POST tester wouldn't find.
I don't know how many times I've seen systems with built in ethernet card and they have another realtek ethernet card in a PCI slot. When I ask why the person always tells me because the on board one is dead. When tested it never is. I really don't get it. I've never had any component fail on any motherboard except for caps.
.... except for when PSUs go "out" violently..... then I've seen south/north bridge chips blown apart, etc.
