I think ATI/AMD & vendors should calm down, relax and think. To me, HD5870 owner, it's not the right thing to start selling more expensive 5870s...NVidia will recover from the FERMI "Hot and noisy" pretty quick and this summer, newer FERMI cards will be out there.
The only way to keep some sort of advantage for ATI, is to sell more cards right now, and work really hard on the HD6*** series, to keep the momentum between them and Nvidia.
ATI & vendors, if you can't beat GTX480 with your iterations of the HD5870, don't try...beat NVidia at pricing and sell as much HD58** cards and HD57** card before the summer, before GTX465 (or whatever it's gonna be called) comes out. Keep the DX11 momentum!
I'd rather own a HD5970 than a "too expensive" HD5870. At least, the 5970 is on top of GTX480
