Not sure if that's legit, but OTOH, I have no reason to specifically say it isn't.
That said... If it is legit, I'd think the law would apply to a search warrant based on information used in an article, not in the case of trying to find out where the journalist got the stolen property from. (I'm working on the assumption that once the original "finder" profited from not turning it into the police that it would be consider stolen property).
