Ah what is 80 hours anyways :p...... just kidding.
I can save you some time from personal experiences from friends and myself with vastly different gaming PC's. I can tell you my friend has a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz and a 8800 GTS 320mb card and can play UT3 with good settings but if there are a lot of bots then he gets a bit choppy at times. He also can play medieval total war just fine and same with COH. He used to run a 7600GT with his P4 and then I sold(gave :p) him my old 8800GTS and saw massive improvements in some games and not much in others.
I have another friend who is on a pentium D 3.2ghz or something with a 8800 Ultra that I used to have and he can play every game and most with near max settings.
I would test my GTX 260 on my friends P4 system but his power supply isn't that good and may be dying.
I would assume that the 5850 would have no noticeable difference from a E8400 to a Core i7 980 in 80% of the games.
