My System Specs

Default My Antec Tp III 650 for a GTX480??? adapters needed?

Hi all!

I'm sure you can help me with that.

I use an Antec True Power trio 650 Watts, 52A on the 12 volts rail. It's a Seasonic-built model, sharing "most" but not all, components with the Corsair HX620...it's not quite as good, but working great for 2 years.
It's officially a multi-rail PSU, but looking at pictures of the soldering points on the Board (I don't have the technical term of this), they all go to the SAME spot. So, in fact, it's a SINGLE rail 52 amps PSU design.

From JonnyGURU's review:

Quote:
In addition to all of this; I also couldn't find any circuitry beyond the traces that actually "divide" these rails. And on the load tester, I found that there actually is no OCP, so there is no 19A per 12V rail "limit" either. Just seems to be a single +12V rail PSU! Which actually isn't such a bad thing, but dammit! The label says I get three +12V rails and the PSU is called the "Trio" after all!
So, it has 2 X 6-pins PCI-E connectors. Fine for my GTX260 OR a POSSIBLE GTX470 (2X6-pins according to PCB pictures). IF ( A BIG BIG BIG IF) GTX480 is affordable/meeting my price point...it had 1 X 6-pins and 1 X 8-pins connector. I'm doomed.

Or can I just use a 6-pins to 8 pins PCI-e adapter like this

to get it to work without ANY stability issues???
I'm running the computer in SIG, there is NOT a huge load on it, IMHO.

I mean, if it's not a GTX480, it could be any other GFX card that has one of those 8pin connector. Would I have to buy a new PSU???
