No I think vsync is mostly a problem on displays that refresh at lower frequencies, like LCDs (60Hz). If you are getting screen tearing then you want to enable vsync, otherwise don't use it because it does 2 bad things...

1. Caps your FPS to your monitors refresh rate
2. If the FPS lowers below the refresh rate then your FPS can jump down a big step below the actual FPS because of vsync.

So far I have only had to enable vsync on Prey. I have not played many games on my 8800GT yet, but that was one that needed vsync with it, as well as my 7900GS.
