It is fairly sturdy. Just don't walk into it. The feet are probably about 4-5" wide. If you felt un sure about it slipping you could probably attach a metal plate on the backside or get some UHF tape from lee valley (UHF = Ultra High Friction). And yes unless you have a HTIB reciever it will not fit in them without some modding. I have had both a yamaha and my current marantz and neither fit. I just put it on top. beside my centre which is almost as big.
