Overall, I7 is the faster machine but if it used for gaming the AMD will do just fine. IMO I7 is overkill for gaming unless you do dual card set ups, I7 seems to be better for dual card set ups. ( far as i can tell )
I am building 2 AMD systems this friday i have read so many I7 Vs AMD i am getting a headache, my conclusion for a gaming build AMD 955 is far more than enough.
Even for basic 3d or photshop AMD is fine, i use to Photoshop & 3d work on my P4 1.2 ghz with radeon 9600 pro & even then it was not that horribly slow. so this new system will just take a crap on my old syetm as far as 3d work goes. ( basic 3d )
my 2 cents, whatever floats your boat.
I might add i am somewhat budgeted, well i can afford an I7 i just prefer to pay my sytem off in 1 month vs 1.5...so that is what helped me decide also.
