First observations
My observations of the Mediasonic HUR1-SU2LA.
It has uPnP capabilities. It shows up in My Network Places as "STORAGE". Double clicking the icon brings up the login page in your current browser. uPnP must be enabled in "My Network Places"
One cannot map to more than 1 user folder from the same Windows XP computer. If I have 2 separate Windows PCs, then I can map a drive to Alice's folder on one PC and Bob's folder on another PC. This is not a usual server behaviour. This restriction is mentioned in the CD manual, so apparently the notion of copying from a user directory to another user directory is foreign to them (as long as each one logs in with the right password.)
The users' top-level folders are not visible in the network, under "Entire Network". This is again not normal to have the user's folders in "stealth" mode, because one needs to know the name of the folder to map to. This is bound to confuse the user. Maybe from a security point of view it is better to hide the folders, e.g. for business use. The cover of the box mentions it is useful as a workplace server.
Note that after mapping a drive, "My Network Places" remembers the folders that were mapped, so that mitigates this problem a bit.
