I notice that Samsung monitors often has better colors/contrast than BenQ or Acer (probably why BenQ and Acer are a lot cheaper).
When switching from CRT to LCD for the first time, you'll notice a big change in contrast/colors. Samsung monitors also have a lot better stands compared to Acer. I hate how once I've put my Acer stand, I could not take it out again without breaking something. Dell and LG are also good brands.

Some people are also concerned about viewing angles. If you're one of them, you may want to check the actual monitor before buying.

If I were you, I'd chip in another $40-50 to get a 22" widescreen. I do love the widescreen, though some others prefer the good 'ol 4:3 scale monitors.
