The BIOS setting should be AUTO and usually you would see it listed in the BIOS. If everything in your PC is SATA then setting that IDE drive to master is fine. It can be a slave too since it's the only IDE device in your system. When your system POST's it should be displaying the IDE drive model but these screens go by really fast. Make sure the red stripe on the IDE cable is facing towards the power connector of the HD. The best thing to try is to download GParted, burn to DVD and boot from it. This will show you all your drives even when connected with USB. If you get it going download Speedfan and do an analysis of your drive to see any problems.
